ST. LOUIS COUNTY MO. — The Bass Pro Shops location that’s under construction is getting bigger, even before it opens.
The new Sunset Hills store. originally projectedTo open in the second quarter of 2022, the new center will take over the entire shopping mall at 3600 S. Lindbergh Blvd. with the Springfield-based outdoor retailer adding approximately 17,500 square feet onto the original 75,000 square-foot layout. The expansion and the entire project development costs were not immediately available.
Bass Pro will also lease the space next to its original space, The Tile Shop. This store would have been the only one in the shopping center apart from Bass Pro. Mechlin announced that The Tile Store was able to terminate its lease earlier than expected.
The shopping center is owned and managed by Sansone Group, Clayton’s commercial real estate firm. leased the spaceLast year’s deal with Bass Pro included a payment to Bass Pro. The terms of the lease were not disclosed but the average asking rent for South County was $14.23/square foot as of the second quarter according to Cushman & Wakefield.
Bass Pro Shops did not immediately respond to a questions about whether the new addition postpones the project’s opening date.
According to a store employee, the Tile Shop in Sunset Hills will be closing on October 31. The operation will merge with its Brentwood location.
Bass Pro took over the majority of the Shoppes at Sunset Hills shopping mall after Toys R Us was forced to close in 2018. Ross Dress for Less followed shortly.
