Cerda had a dream to open Couture Glamour Boutique. She said she wanted to be her boss.
“When I was in school I struggled a lot. I didn’t think university was meant for me,” the 18-year-old said.
“I just felt like I could do a lot more with fashion and clothing.”
The store sells accessories such as bags, purses, wallets, perfumes and lingerie. Its grad dresses are a prominent feature.
“It’s very hard to find dresses in Saskatoon,”She spoke.
She was able to devote a lot time to the boutique, and she was able to work three jobs to earn a steady income.
It is also difficult to get people into her store because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It definitely took a lot of my time to try and see what I could do on my website.”
However, there are also some bright spots in the job.
“I own something and I get to be my own boss and just to be proud of accomplishing something so young,” Cerda said.
Maria, Marlene’s mother, has been there for her through it all and is proud of her determination to follow her dreams.
“It was actually like a dream come true. I will say to cut the ribbon we were so proud of her,”Maria.
