ROSEMONT, Ill. (WLS) — Rosemont police have identified and arrested the gunman in Friday’s shooting at Fashion Outlets of Chicago.
Investigators have reported that Jose G. Matias (18) of Chicago has been arrested on a nationwide warrant.

Police claimed that the shooting was a target between the gunman, Joel Valdes (20), and Joel Valdes (21), who was also shot at the mall and later died at the hospital.

“He was with someone else. They were walking around, I guess shopping, and these people, whoever they were, I don’t know because I don’t recognize them as being a friend or anything, they were following them”She spoke. “They were leaving and they confronted him and asked about a gang affiliation. He wasn’t in a gang.”
Police said that a 15-year-old girl was found in a bathroom next to the food court and was also shot in her wrist. Her condition has stabilized since then. Police claimed she was an innocent witness who was not involved with the conflict between Matias Valdes.
Rosemont police reported that the shooter escaped in a 2008 Hyundai maroon with other people inside.

Police said that one firearm was found on the scene and is being used as evidence.
The sound of gunfire sent shoppers running for cover, causing hundreds to flee. Police then escorted patrons and staff store by store.
Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident that resulted from a fight between Valdes and the alleged gunman.
“His friends loved him. He was so lovable, he had a good heart,”Negron said. “JoJo was always there for us.”
Police say Matias is the lone gunman at the moment and are asking for tips from the public. Police say Matias was armed and dangerous.
