The royal family has never been afraid to wear color—after all, the bold, monochromatic ensemble has been one of the Queen’s signature looks for decades. So maybe Princess Eugenie was taking a page from her beloved grandmother’s book when she turned up to the national service of thanksgiving today at St Paul’s Cathedral in honor of the Queen’s 70th year on the throne wearing a vibrant shade of orange.

The Queen was unable to attend the event due to ongoing mobility issues. Eugenie, however, brought some color to it in a Emilia Wickstead Amila mini dress. She was accented with a black fascinator, clutch and slingback heels.
The look marks the princess’s first official public appearance of the jubilee—as she, like her sister Beatrice, is not a working royal, she didn’t appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the annual Trooping the Colour flyover yesterday. Based on an Instagram photo the social media-savvy prince shared yesterday, it seems that she was part of the festivities. Eugenie, wearing a pale blue dress (the same color as the Queen) and a taupe fascinator is seen behind her husband Jack Brooksbank, and their one-year old son, August, while they watch the planes fly overhead.
While Eugenie is particularly close to her grandmother—she even penned a special tribute to the monarch earlier this week—it seems that she may soon be spending less time with the Queen. Recently, Eugenie’s three-member family will be moving to Portugal part-time for Jack’s new job.
