San Diego Gives launches 2022 campaign

San Diego Gives, a six month fundraising program for San Diego-based nonprofits begins Saturday, July 16. Countywide birthday celebrations will take place at support businesses throughout the county. The San Diego Gives campaign chose to launch the campaign in honor of San Diego’s birthday, July 16, the day San Diego was established as a city (July 16, 1769). The birthday parties will kick off early giving and all funds raised will go towards the San Diego Gives campaign. “Love Them All”All participating San Diego nonprofits will receive the same amount of funds. San Diegans have the opportunity to give from July 17 to Sept. 8, and they can do so anytime between July 17 and Sept. 8. The campaign’s day-of giving is Thursday, Sept. 8.

Del Mar Foundation Summer Twilight Concert

The next Del Mar Foundation Summer Twilight Concert takes place at Powerhouse Park, Del Mar on Tuesday, July 19. The North Coast Remarkable Mister Holmesp

North Coast Rep will present The Remarkable Mister Holmes, a musical murder mystery comedy, for the first time in the world. It will be performed July 20-21. It’s London in the 1890s. The city is engulfed by a series baffling crimes that Sherlock Holmes and his new assistant can solve. Not only do they sleuth and scrutinize – they also sing! This fast-paced, hilarious, sometimes irreverent, but still loving tribute to Arthur Conan Doyle stories comes from the nimble minds Omri Schein, North Coast Rep Artistic Director David Ellenstein, and Daniel Lincoln.

Outdoor walking tour organized by Encinitas Historical Society

On Saturday, July 16, the Encinitas Historical Society will host its next free outdoor walking tour through historic downtown Encinitas. This two-hour guided tour by a docent takes participants through downtown Encinitas. It includes historic sites such as Cottonwood Creek, the iconic boathouses and many other points of historical interest.

Take a tour of the historic 1883 Schoolhouse at 390 West F Street at 10 a.m. on Saturday July 16. The walking tour runs from 10 a.m. – noon. Bring your camera and walking shoes. All dogs are welcome. All-volunteer organizations are grateful for donations.

2022 Farm Film & Music Series continues

Coastal Roots Farm is a non-profit Jewish community farm and education centre in Encinitas that will be hosting its 2022 Farm Film & Music Series. This series is designed to educate and entertain the community.

The Farm invites friends, families, and the whole community to join them in an entertaining series. The series features inspiring documentary films, local music, and meaningful conversations about equitable food system, environmental justice, caring for the planet, and more. Devotees, scientists, farmers, politicians, and activists will share their knowledge about how regenerative farming can save the soil, rebuild communities and combat climate change while feeding the world.

All are welcome. Guests are welcome to bring their picnic blankets, lawn chairs, food, and drinks to enjoy an evening at the Farm. June 23rd was the first event.

Fashion Week San Diego continues with youth fashion sustainability workshops

Fashion Week San Diego (FWSD), recently announced that it will launch its second annual Haute STEAM Program on Saturday, July 23rd from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Knobbe Martens Law Firm. Eight high school students will have the opportunity to learn design basics and sustainable fashion solutions in this one-day youth sustainability workshop. The 2022 Fashion Week San Diego designers Sierra Mitchell and MOTIV, as well as Jackie Shihadeh, sustainability expert from The Council of Fashion Designers of America, will provide expert insight.

All participants will receive a free pass to Fashion Week San Diego’s rooftop trunk show on Oct. 9 at the Andaz Hotel, in addition to fashion sketchbooks, fabric and sewing supplies. San Diego Botanic Garden presents ‘World of Houseplants’

San Diego Botanic Garden presents its summer exhibition “World of Houseplants,”From July 16 to Sept. 5, featuring rare species as well as everyday houseplants, ranging from air plants and Aroids to carnivorous and wax plants.

The exhibit will be located in the Dickinson Family Education Conservatory, which measures 8,000 square feet. It is located at Quail Gardens Drive and Ecke Ranch Road. This conservatory collection includes hundreds of additional plants. The event will feature vendors from the U.S., Canada, and internationally who will sell plants, cuttings and potting materials, unique containers, and other products for houseplants on selected days. The garden will host classes and hands-on workshops on caring for plants, including bromeliads and begonias.

Tickets are now on sale for the Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association’s 33rd Annual Taste of Encinitas, presented by Ting Wireless.
