Let’s start with this daring look… Zoe Kravitz showed off her undergarments in a see-through gown — a slinky Saint Laurent number made of crystal mesh — during the 2021 Met Gala. Jennifer Lopez may have taken the theme too literally by wearing a cowgirl-chic look during the 2021 Met Gala. The singer-actress donned a Western-inspired Ralph Lauren look comprised of a brown dress with a frayed train, a holster belt, a faux fur shearling cape, chunky bling, an oversized leather hat and sky-high heeled sandals… It was A LOT. We loved the silhouette of her dress but we were not impressed by the accessories.

We loved Jennifer Lopez’s faux fur shearling hat, but her overall look was much better after it was removed. It would have been nice if she had also removed her holster belt which was incorporated into her dress and one of her two large necklaces. We will never forget her frayed train that made it look as if she had just rolled around in horsehair.

The Grammy winner channeled Old Hollywood in a peach Oscar de la Renta creation featuring an epic train — which was perfect for posing on the iconic Met Gala stairs. Keke Palmer asked her about Mattel’s holiday Barbie line. “It was my favorite thing in the world,”She said. “I would ask for them for Christmas every single year. The dresses, genuinely that was my inspiration.” Now let’s see this look from another angle…
Billie Eilish channeled an American icon — late model-actress Marilyn Monroe — in this off-the-shoulder Oscar De La Renta gown featuring a fitted bodice and an epic train. She actually made a deal with the fashion house when she committed to wearing one of their looks: She’d only wear Oscar de la Renta if they agreed to stop using fur in their designs … forever! But that wasn’t the only way her look made history…
Billie Eilish completed her look with 30 different pieces of Cartier jewelry — the most any person has worn at a time ever!
Iman channeled the sun in this epic Harris Reed creation: a handmade crinoline featuring gold leaves that she wore over a jacquard bustier top and matching flare pants. Harris Reed collaborated with milliner VivienneH. Lake to create a massive headpiece for Iman.
It’s a no. Kim Kardashian covered all of her skin (including her face) with a Balenciaga outfit that consisted of a three quarter-sleeve minidress, and hybrid boot-pants. Trains. The only thing left of the reality star? Her hair. See it from a different angle next…
Kim Kardashian wore her hair in a long, floor-skimming ponytail. Yuck.
Kendall Jenner looked stunning in a Givenchy gown that was completely sheer, which exposed her flesh-toned bottoms during the 2021 Met Gala.
Emily Blunt was all stars and no stripes during the 2021 Met Gala. The English actress channeled Lady Liberty wearing a sheer, crystal-embellished Miu Miu creation with fringed skirts and a cape. Get a closer look at her headpiece next…
Emily Blunt finished her look with a bejeweled crown that featured shooting stars.
Lorde also wore an extravagant headpiece. She topped off her Bode ensemble — an open-front long-sleeved top and a matching skirt with a lengthy train that she held up with a finger loop — with a crown comprised of “repurposed antiques.” Let’s take a closer look…
Bode also made Lorde’s beaded hairpiece, which was in honor of her new role. “Solar Power”Album featuring three suns. She kept her makeup simple so that the large accessory could speak for itself.
OUR KING! OUR KING! “LGBTQ+ American fairytale.”He arrived in a regal, gold robe. “represents concealing one’s true self.”
Lil Nas X took off his cape to expose the Versace armor with Medusa-adorned details. “a symbol of protection from the prejudices faced as a Black, queer person.” There was a final layer under that…
Lil Nas X stripped to reveal a Versace bodysuit. “that represents living life as your true, unguarded self.“
She did it again! Rihanna was a star in a Balenciaga puffer coat dress. The black beanie she wore with a mesh layer of crystal-adorned mesh swathed across her forehead completed her look. Let’s take a closer look…
Rihanna wore 267 carats Bulgari Diamonds in addition to her unique hat. She also wore a stunning choker.
Never seen a denim dress so chic! Lupita Nyongo’s Versace strapless gown featured a ruffled train and panels made of sheer embellished fabric at both the neckline & along the thigh-high slit. Beautiful!
We’ve seen it all! Kim Petras chose a Collina Strada floral-print ballgown with a thigh-high slit and a hoop skirt … and a giant horse head on the bust. She added to her extravagant look by styling her hair in a long braid and rocking an embellished manicure.
It can’t possibly be Hailee Steinfeld! The Oscar-nominated “True Grit” actress donned an Iris Van Herpen minidress that was practically a work of art, but between her blonde bob and dramatic makeup, she looked like someone else entirely…
Wow! Hailee Steinfeld, a brunette with long hair, was transformed by her dramatic makeup, bleached eyebrows, and blonde wig.
Another starlet we barely recognize? Zoey Deutch! The actress went out of her comfort zone for a Versace lavender beaded creation with a slit at the hips and detached sleeves. Pureolgoy Global Arts Ambassador Gregory Russell styled the ‘do.
WAY too casual, Kristen Stewart. The “Twilight” alum rocked head-to-toe Chanel — a floral-print ruffled blouse with white tweed trousers — during the 2021 Met Gala. We also have some thoughts about her hair and makeup…
We didn’t like Kristen Stewart’s retro hairstyle. Although her loose ponytail was great, her rigid poof left much to be desired. Her makeup, however was spot on!
Also available in the “too casual”category? Cara Delevingne was seen wearing a Dior ensemble that included white trousers and a bulletproof vest, with the words “Cara” written on it. “peg the patriarchy” — which she obviously wore sans shirt. She explained the model of her vest. “It’s about women empowerment [and] gender equality. It’s a bit like, ‘Stick it to the man.'”
We didn’t see this one coming… Irina Shyk delivered one of our favorite looks of the evening: A strapless flesh-toned Moschino gown featuring a corset bodice and a sheer skirt with strategically-placed embroidered flower arrangements. Beautiful!
Did someone copy another’s homework? “Riverdale”Lili Reinhart, a star, wore a dress that looked remarkably like Irina’s. Corset bodice Check. Sheer skirt? Check. Check. Double check. But Christian Siriano created Lili’s look, which featured the state flower from all 50 states in the U.S. Time for a closer look…
We loved Lili Reinhart’s dress as well, but we were not crazy about the extra-long stems that sprouted from her armpit.
One more floral fashion moment was worth mentioning at the 2021 Met Gala. NikkieTutorials makeup artists Nikkie de Jager and Marsha P. Johnson were portrayed in Edwin Oudshoorn Couture creations that paid tribute to their LGBTQ+ icons. “Pay It No Mind,”It was also embroidered on the skirt. But that wasn’t the only way Nikkie honored the late activist…
Nikkie de Jager donned a flower crown similar to Marsha P.Jones’ signature look.
Kate Hudson showed off her taut stomach with Michael Kors: a bralette, matching skirt, and a matching bralette. She paired it with a stunning feathered coat. Now take a peep at her show-stopping bling…
Jaw. Dropping. Kate Hudson may have gone too far with the pink eyeshadow, however, we loved her Lorraine Schwartz layers necklaces even more. (She also debuted her new engagement ring at the Met Gala — see it here.)
Anyone else dreaming of owning a huge pink feathered coat after 2021 Met Gala? Kate Hudson finished her look with a Michael Kors design, but it was Gucci designed for Sienna Miller. Her long-sleeved gown featured embroidered, sequined lace with a floral motif and a crystal harness detail at the bodice.
Jonathan Anderson designed a loud Loewe ensemble for Dan Levy. His puff-sleeved polo shirt and matching trousers featured a recreation from a piece of art created by David Wojnarovicz, a late multimedia artist and LGBTQIA+ activist. More on that next…
Dan Levy shared his Instagram account, stating that his Loewe ensemble was a celebration of queer love. “We wanted to celebrate queer love and visibility — acknowledging how hard artists like Wojnarovicz had to fight, while also presenting the imagery in a way that offered a hopeful message. Tonight, we’re celebrating the resilience, the love, and the joy of the community while honoring a crucial American voice that was taken from us too soon,”He wrote about the design on his shirt.
Dan Levy completed the look with Loewe combat shoes, which were adorned in pastel roses painted to match his colorful ensemble.
Another menswear moment we loved was Pete Davidson’s Thom Browne ensemble. It featured a white overcoat and a midi-length LBD. The “Saturday Night Live”GQ was happy to hear that the star bragged to GQ about how excited he was to use the bathroom in the outfit he wore. It was inspired from a nun who likes partying.
Not you too, Hailey Bieber! During the 2021 Met Gala, the model wore sunglasses and a simple black Saint Laurent dress.
We are willing to overlook the fact that Shawn Mendes arrived to fashion’s biggest event without a shirt. What we can’t get past, however, is that his Michael Kors ensemble — trousers and a leather jacket — featured suspenders … even though, again, he wasn’t wearing a shirt.
What color is the night? It would be red! No one sported the trend better than model mama Karlie Kloss, who stunned in a Carolina Herrera confection inspired by a rose — which happens to be the national flower of the United States of America. The perfect finishing touch to her look was the diamond De Beers earrings.
Emily Ratajkowski was also a red rose girl, though we weren’t as excited about her Vera Wang gown than Karlie. She wore sheer opera gloves with red lace floral embroidery and a choker that covered her head.
Megan Fox made her Met Gala debut wearing a long-sleeved Dundas dress with a body-baring cut-out and a hip-high, slit. Would you expect anything else? You can’t ask for anything less!
Jennifer Hudson wore a dramatic AZ Factory ensemble. It was a long-sleeved mermaid gown with contrasting fabrics (ribbed cotton at the top, satin at the bottom), and an oversized satin jacket that she later took off. Let’s check it out…
It still packs the drama! Here’s Jennifer Hudson in her AZ Factory gown, sans the huge satin coat.
It was hard to find a better look! Isabelle Huppert wore a long-sleeved red velvet mermaid gown like Jennifer Hudson.
Sorry Addison Rae. But haven’t you seen this look before. Yep, Candice Swanepoel wore exactly the same vintage Tom Ford Gucci gown just three days prior to the TikTok star. It’s so embarrassing! (More embarrassing? Her jaw-dropping De Beers jewels.)
It was weird… but we loved it! Rosalia’s Rick Owens ensemble included fringed shorts, platform-thigh-high boots and dramatic elbow-length glove. It also featured off-the-shoulder tops that turned into a cape and train. Let’s take a look from a different angle…
It must have been so heavy! Rosalia’s Rick Owens ensemble was dramatic and featured a fringed extra-long train.
The most notable all-red looks? Eiza Gonzalez’s Versace-halter-dress had a thigh-high slit, and a single attached sleeves that left her shoulder exposed.
Ciara, are you really that serious? The singer honored her favorite American icon — her husband, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who wears the number 3 on his jersey — with her football jersey-inspired Dundas dress during the 2021 Met Gala.
We were torn by Alicia Keys custom AZ Factory outfit. We loved her extra-long skirt with layers of pleated, tulle. We detested her sheer button-down blouse that left her red bra exposed.
Another young star who paid tribute to Hollywood? “Game of Thrones”Maisie Williams, alum of the University of Texas, went full-on goth in a look that Reuben Selby (designer) created for her. It was inspired by the look worn by Reuben Selby’s boyfriend, Maisie Williams. “Matrix” franchise. The ensemble included a bodysuit, sheer tights, and a belted vest with long train. Let’s take a closer look at her hair and makeup…
Maisie Williams completed her “The Matrix”-inspired look by rocking bleached eyebrows and wearing her hair in an asymmetrical updo — one of the weirdest ‘dos we’ve ever seen at the Met Gala!
Grimes meanwhile wore an Iris van Herpen style inspired by a different sci fi franchise: “Dune”Bene Gesserit, an order of superhuman warrior women. The gown features 26 meters of silk draped silk and was made from “silver liquid silicone that is hand-casted into a mirror finished laser-cut labyrinth,”According to the designer. The musician posed with a sword and some other interesting accessories…
Grimes wore her lavender locks up in a futuristic style and wore a silver mask from CHRISHABANA. “Dune”Collection, as well as matching cuff earrings.
Here’s a better look at Grimes’ unique updo.
We loved the way Timothee Chalamet’s ensemble paid homage to different eras of American fashion — from his perfectly tailored Haider Ackermann jacket (straight-up Laurie from “Little Women”) to his loose-fitting Rick Owens trousers, which channeled today’s popular sweats-dominated streetwear trends. He could have finished his look with Converse sneakers.
Best Choice | Chilliwack Down Bomber Coat in black with stretch rib waistband and cuff, exterior pockets, adjustable tunnel hood Shell: 50% polyester, 50% cotton |
“Euphoria” star Hunter Schafer rocked Prada separates — a silver breastplate and matching skirt — that weren’t necessarily anything to write home about. But her accessories… well, those were a different story…
Hunter Schafer wore a pair of white contacts and a headpiece that looked like a spider, which spanned from her forehead to her tip of the nose. It was the most interesting accessory of the evening!
Bow down! Normani had a major princess moment in a voluminous Valentino gown with exaggerated sleeves and a plunging neckline — which perfectly showed off her Lorraine Schwartz jewels…
Get a load Normani’s Lorraine Schwartz jewels
Megan Thee Stallion enjoyed a beautiful Old Hollywood moment in a strapless Coach creation featuring an asymmetrical, tulle-ruffle. This was made in partnership for Swarovski. We loved her Fernando Jorge Galaxy ring and her mother of pearl diamond.
Diane Kruger played with color, and won! A neon green Prabal Gurung minidress was worn by Diane Kruger. It featured a bubble skirt, a loose-fitting bodice and a cape with a long train. Keep reading to see how she matched her makeup to her hot pink pumps…
Diane Kruger wore hot-pink eyeshadow in the corner of her eyes. She paired it with large dangle earrings that featured a rainbow of colored gems.
Whoopi Goldberg’s attempt to play with color was less successful… The iconic actress wore a ruffled purple Valentino robe over a teal gown and completed her look with minty elbow-length gloves.
Cynthia Erivo was impressive in Moschino separates. A bralette with strapless back and a bralette that defies gravity, and a skirt with train and high-waisted pants were just a few of the highlights. Her bling was equally impressive…
Cynthia Erivo wore Roberto Coin jewels, and a equally blinged out manicure.
Sawetie was caught in a wardrobe malfunction by Christian Cowan’s creation with a massive midriff cut-out, a thigh high slit and 10 million crystals. We did say 10 million! But to truly understand its significance — and the way it played into the evening’s theme — you’ve got to see it from a different angle…
The split-train in Sawetie’s Christian Cowan gown actually pays tribute to two flags: one the Black American Heritage flag, and one the Philippine national flag. “I’m Black and Filipino. That’s what makes me an American girl,”The “Best Friend”E! had a quick chat with rapper to explain his music.’s “Live from the Red Carpet.”
The bodysuit is in! Numerous stars wore the trend at the 2021 Met Gala. Olivia Rodrigo wore a sheer black Saint Laurent lace Saint Laurent gown with a feathered collar.
Serena Williams channeled the superhero look with her Gucci outfit: a lace corseted bodice with a floral motif, lace gloves, metallic sandals, and a pink feathered top.
Michaela Coel looked radiant in a Balenciaga jumpsuit, which included her shoes.
Halle Bailey showed off her stems wearing a Rodarte pink fringed bodysuit with a plunging neckline.
Winnie Harlow looked stunning in an Iris van Herpen bodysuit, with a sheer cape that cascaded down her back.
Another Iris van Herpen style we loved! Gabrielle Union’s white scalloped gown with a plunging neckline was a work of art … period!
Pilgrim, but make it fashionable! Rebecca Hall made us believe that Thanksgiving was early when she wore a Louis Vuitton patent leather dress with a frilly collar to attend the 2021 Met Gala. Even worse, the floral-print panels reminded of the fabric our grandma used for her curtains and sofa.
A$AP Rocky showed up to the 2021 Met Gala in this colorful ERL creation that was … basically a floral-print quilt. Fortunately, he didn’t wear it for long…
A$AP Rocky wore a suit and a button-down with ruffles, as well as an incredible amount of bling underneath his ERL quilt-coat.
Not the sheer trend! Julia Garner wore the Stella McCartney sleeveless turtleneck Stella McCartney gown made of crystal fishnet. Asymmetrical adidas by Stella McCartney Bodysuit. (If there’s any trend we hate more than the sheer trend, it’s the activewear-as-couture trend!) We loved everything else about her look, though…
Julia Garner channeled the American flag with Harry Winston drop earrings featuring red and blue gems. Crystal stickers were added to her eyes’ corners for extra sparkle.
Fashion is Julia Garner’s passion. “it”Ella Emhoff, a girl, wore an adidas by Stella McCartney outfit that was inspired by current activewear trends. The model-designer chose a mesh bodysuit with sheer panels and loose-fitting trousers that reminded us of large, red trash bags. Her casual look was completed with matching trainers.
Keke Palmer looked radiant in a long-sleeve Sergio Hudson gown that resembled Diana Ross. The gown had a high neckline and curve-hugging sleeves. Although she looked stunning, we couldn’t help feeling that she had taken too much risk. Let’s take a closer look…
After Keke Palmer’s twirl, it became apparent how beautiful her Sergio Hudson dress was from a different angle: It actually had a dangerously low cut open-back design.
Yara Shahidi, as many other young stars, paid homage at the 2021 Met Gala to an iconic entertainer by her look. Josephine Baker, a French-American actress and civil right activist, inspired her stunning strapless Dior dress. Accessorized with matching opera gloves and a gauzy cape, she wore lots of diamonds.
A shirt-dress too big for fashion’s biggest night? We must admit that we were expecting more from Tracee Ross, who wore this cobalt Balenciaga piece.
Nicola Peltz had a major Barbie moment wearing a Valentino hot pink spaghetti-strap Valentino dress with blush leather gloves.
Carey Mulligan also wore a Valentino hot pink Valentino with a strapless ballgown, and a sheer cape that added nothing to the look.
Here’s a pink look we loathed… Lily-Rose Depp donned Chanel separates — an embellished crop top and a matching skirt — during the 2021 Met Gala. Although the pieces were beautiful on their own, we couldn’t help but notice how she styled them. Wearing the skirt so low made her look awkward and distorted her proportions.
During the 2021 Met Gala Tessa Thompson wore an Iris van Herpen mini with sheer bodice and unique Iris van Herpen skirt. She wore a pair of black cowboy hats and knee-high boots instead. Next, see why we’re glad she took it off…
Tessa Thompson was not wearing a cowboy cap, but it was resting slightly on her head.
Ilana Glazer served bird-couture in a shapeless Aliette gown with feathered sleeves.
This was quite interesting! “Euphoria”And “A Wrinkle in Time”Storm Reid, a star, wore a Prada 3-piece set during 2021 Met Gala. Storm Reid wore a multicolored strapless crop top and black shorts with a pink feathered open front skirt. This was later removed. See how much that changed her look next…
Storm Reid was a Gidget when she removed her Prada skirt. She also donned some of our favorite bling of the evening…
Storm Reid layered pink necklaces with diamonds and flowers that were perfectly coordinated with her Prada outfit. Her eyes also had crystal accents.
We wouldn’t expect anything less from Erykah Badu than this wacky Thom Browne ensemble: a column skirt with a drawstring hemline, a satin down stole and a truly bizarre hat that you’ll need to see to believe…
The top of Erykah Badu’s hat turned into a mask. Who would have thought? You can’t believe it!
Troye Sivan looked stunning in a slinky gown by Joseph Altuzarra’s gender fluid collection, Altu. The Australian singer-songwriter accessorized her look with a Cartier diamond necklace and a Leatherman biceps cuff, as well as Rick Owens platform boots.
Even some of the men rocked the all-red trend… Finneas, for example, sported head-to-toe red — from his shirt-mask hybrid to his patent leather boots. Lets take a closer look at our favorite part of his Givenchy ensemble…
Finneas wore his sequin-embellished turtleneck to protect himself against the coronavirus.
Another man in red! Maluma rocked a sequin-studded Western-inspired Versace ensemble — a fringed jacket with matching pants, cowboy boots and a gold undershirt that coordinated with his gold buttons and bejeweled belt buckle.
While we loved Naomi Osaka’s Louis Vuitton dress — especially the cape-like layered off-the-shoulder sleeves — which paid homage to her Japanese heritage, we couldn’t get behind her bold red makeup or her wild hairdo. Let’s take a closer look…
Naomi Osaka wore large amounts of red eyeshadow all over her eyes. She wore her hair, meanwhile, in three sections adorned with red crystals and flowers — two sections flattened and sticking straight out to the sides and one section twisted into braided loops on top. Now let’s see her unique ‘do from a different angle…
We would love Naomi Osaka’s unique ’do, with braided loops and sections sticking straight out at the sides.
Helen Lasichanh and Pharrell Williams matched in western-inspired Chanel ensembles at the 2021 Met Gala.
What could be better than a beautiful ballgown with a dramatic train! Men’swear with a dramatic railway! “Pose”And “One Night in Miami…”Jeremy Pope, a star in the movie “The Killer Angels”, wore an all-white Dion Lee outfit consisting of a jacket and a train. He wore it without shirts (naturally!). white trousers.
“Gossip Girl”Evan Mock, the star, wore a Thom Browne outfit that was essentially straight from the book: dress shorts and a tailored jacket with safety pins. He finished the look with a black patent-leather mask, which was one of the strangest accessories of the evening. See it closer next…
Here is a closeup of Evan Mock’s bizarre patent leather mask with a mohawk of studded studs.
Anna Wintour, Vogue Editor-in Chief, was shocked when she walked in this Oscar de la Renta long-sleeved floral print Oscar de la Renta dress with a ruffled neckline. There were layers of ruffles down the skirt and along the sleeves. The diamond necklace she wore was magnificent, but it was lost in the rest.
The drama! It was a significant maternity moment for Bee Shaffer, who wore a Valentino gown in a teal off the shoulder Valentino gown with a long train. “Bridgerton”Positive vibes in the best possible way
The best thing about Dixie D’Amelio’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”-inspired Valentino ensemble — a simple sleeveless LBD that she wore with white opera gloves — was her giant feathered hat. It would’ve been a showstopper … if Kacey Musgraves hadn’t worn the exact same piece in a vibrant purple shade the night before.
YouTube star Emma Chamberlain showed off her midriff in a metallic Louis Vuitton Minidress. It featured one of our worst trains: a thin stripe of fabric running parallel with one of her tanned legs. We loved her hair and makeup look from the 1960s, but we were not disappointed!
New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was a vision in white in an off-the-shoulder Brother Vellies button-down mermaid dress with pockets and a bold political statement on the back…
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez’s Brother Vlies gown featured the words “tax the rich”In bold red font, it is engraved across the back.
Carolyn Moloney, a New York Congresswoman made a bold statement at the 2021 Met Gala by wearing a Viktor & Rolf Dress with the words “Equal Rights for Women”Her sheer lace cape was adorned in black sequins.
