A popular private holiday display located in Haslett, Michigan will be shut down this year after a woman complained that the decorations were a blight. The mastermind behind the display on Damon Street in Williamstown Township, Cheryl Underwood, took to social media to let the public know her property will be dark this Halloween season due to a Cease & Desist order.
Underwood has been decorating her yard for Christmas and Halloween since the pandemic. Her elaborate decorations have attracted hundreds of people each night to her yard, where they can be seen until 9 pm. But this year, it will be different.
Underwood even posted a sign in her yard stating that there will not be any holiday cheer on Damon Street this Christmas. She isn’t shy about calling out Halloween. “Karen”It all comes to an end.
Underwood says that a neighbor complained about the display being blight. She prompted Wanda Bloomquist, Williamstown Township Supervisor to issue an order for the decorations to be removed this year. Bloomquist commentedIt was because the display attracted too many cars. She was also concerned about emergency vehicles pulling down the street if necessary. Underwood wrote to her FacebookBut that wasn’t the case.
“Wanda Bloomquist says it is a traffic hazard. The truth is….the police came and said there was no problem…emergency vehicles could pass just fine. Plus, we are at the dead end.”
According to WILX,This is Underwood’s first letter regarding the displays. Underwood could still do a smaller version in her yard if she so chooses. But once you go big it’s hard for people to go back.
