This week, the owners submitted a proposal to completely redevelop their property by adding new shops and an outdoor plaza.
“I just love that. That’s when I’d go in again,” said Cheryl Esland.
For years, the mall has struggled to attract customers and keep businesses.
“I know the people there. I know the guy at the yogurt shop, Macy’s, the ice ream store, and everybody is so friendly. I think they just need a little help,” said Walter Soto.
The new plan would allow Macy’s to keep its anchor stores but also completely transform the surrounding area.
This new redevelopment plan will include more than one thousand apartments and a brand-new hotel.
The plan was praised by people we spoke with, who said they believe it can bring more businesses to the mall and revitalize their neighborhood.
“I think it would definitely create a better opportunity for jobs as well as bring a better positive look at the community,” said Sarah Cowan Bennett.
The new plan is still in its early stages.
The final approval could take up to months.
