Doug Mastriano has avoided interviews with credible media outlets while he was campaigning for Pennsylvania governor. Instead, the Republican nominee chose friendly media venues, including hosts who have endorsed antisemitism and support for QAnon, as well as the lie that the 2020 election has been stolen.

Mastriano, a right-wing commentator who is also a Pennsylvania state senator, is known for his right-wing views. He is a QAnon fan and 2020 election denier. He has a history of promoting harmful narratives, including those about abortion and Muslims. He also relied on the supportextremists like Andrew Torba (Antisemitic Gab CEO); “prophet”Julie Green, a bizarre conspiracy-theorist; Toni Shuppe (Flight 93 conspiracy theorist). 

News outlets have notedMastriano has been a busy person in recent months avoided media outlets that the campaign doesn’t consider deferential enough. The New York Times wrote: “He grants interviews almost exclusively to friendly radio and TV shows and podcasts that share Mr. Mastriano’s far-right politics, and continues to heavily rely on Facebook to reach voters directly.”Even Salena Zito from the Washington Examiner columnist is right-wing wrote that she was told by a Mastriano strategist that she can’t get an interview with the Republican “because I had not written anything nice about him.” 

Mastriano’s disdain for talking with media personalities who aren’t deferential enough has extended to political debates. Mastriano famously appeared in an interview with Torba on May 2.
