I was constantly thinking about myself as I watched the new dark comedy directed and written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Celeste Ballard also co-wrote it. “That’s the one. That’s the best costume in this movie. Surely they won’t be able to top this.”I was wrong every time.
The Netflix original dark comedy for teens, which is now streaming on Netflix, teams up with the RiverdaleAnd Stranger ThingsStars for a complex revenge plot with the goal to take down two people who have wronged them. Drea Torres, a popular girl (Mendes), wants to get back at her ex for leaking her private footage. Eleanor Hawke, a socially awkward outcast, is looking out for Eleanor, who spread a nasty gossip that gave her the reputation of a sexual predator after her coming out as queer.

They come up with a plan. “do each other’s revenge,” so that any investigation won’t be traced back to them. What’s the best revenge plan? A makeover, of all things!

Drea is so right. Eleanor has her hair cut and dyed. From then on, every outfit she wears looks amazing. Her school uniform—which she previously wore loose, with an untucked tie, her undershirt sticking out, and wrinkled pants—takes on an Emily in ParisLooks great with a trendy shawl and a beret. (Hawke made the actual “just rolled out of bed vibe”It works just fine, too.

Mendes is not to be outdone. ‘fits throughout the film. While Hawke is all flowers and primaries, Mendes is all feathers and pastels. There’A yellow pleather jacket in yellow with a feathered fringe and cotton-ball earrings. The top is paired with pale yellow pants with a fuzzy pale purple top. It’s like the Easter bunny, but hot. My favorite? The sheer robe with the lacey fringe that’s the color of everyone’s most coveted gel pen. You already know the one.
The grand finale in clothing for both leads is, naturally, the big senior party where they both attend. This is where the film’s climax occurs. Both women look stunning. Hawke wears a futuristic Trinity from-the-Future.The-Matrix Look great in an orange, zipper-covered tube shirt, shiny metallic pants, a matching glossy trench coat, and a matching, shiny metallic trench coat. (A trench coat!) Inspired.) Mendes is all steampunk, wearing a sparkly green dress and a silver linked chain as a strap. They look ready to kill a man together and collect on a life-insurance policy.
This endless display of fashionable beauty belongs to Robinson and Alana Morrishead, costume designer. They were recently interviewed. W Magazine and said she was inspired by some of her favorite ’90s teen movies. “I loved Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and 10 Things I Hate About You,”Morshead stated. “I wanted to take those movies and update them to make them more current.” For Eleanor’s post-makeover look, Morshead described it as a “mod, ’60s vibe,” while Drea’s aesthetic was inspired by supermodels like Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, and Cindy Crawford.
